Just like many other gambling games, backgammon also has more then one variant. The alternative is called Dutch Backgammon and it doesn’t differ much from the original.
Dutch Backgammon is a slightly altered version – unlike standard backgammon, where the goal is to move the pieces to the outer board and then remove them, in Dutch backgammon, both players start playing when all the pieces are outside of the board, and the objective is to transfer them (after being placed on the board) from your home to the opponent’s and then to removing them. The winner is again the one who completes the removal of the pieces first.
At the beginning, one die roll decides who plays first. The player that scored the highest number opens the game, where the first move is placing the first piece on the board. Placing of the pieces on the board is done according to the rolling of die dice, so for example, if the opponent rolled 3 and 4 then one piece is placed on point 3 and another on point 4. Only after a player had placed at least one piece on the board is he entitled to start moving it to the inner home. The movements are completely identical to standard backgammon.
You can find both Versions in any backgammon uk room.
